Counter Assault received the 1998 Grizzly Bear Stewardship Award from the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee in recognition of the research and development of bear spray conducted in conjunction with The University of Montana Border Grizzly Project from 1980-1982.

Bears can run up to 30 mph (44 feet per second), which means that users don't have time to mess around and certainly won't win a footrace. Studies have shown that using bear spray results in a 92% chance of an attack being deterred, saving the user's life and/or the bear's life as well.
